The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, accepted the resignation of Alan Kierematen as Minister of Trade and Industry on Friday, January 6, 2023.
This comes after Mr Kyerematen personally notified the president of his decision to resign on Thursday, January 5, and then sent a letter of resignation.
"President Akufo Addo thanks Mr. Kerematen for his services to the government and the country and wishes him well in his future endeavors," read a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of the Presidential Communications Office.
The president has asked his Treasury Secretary, Ken Ofori-Atta, to serve as Acting Minister of Trade and Industry pending a specific appointment. Trade and Industry Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kierematen has resigned from the Akufo Addo government. He submitted his resignation on Thursday, January 5, 2023, according to impeccable Peace Fumonline sources in Kerematen's camp and in the president's office.
Alan Cash, as he is commonly known, is one of the presidential candidates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It remains unclear whether this resignation is related to Alan's ambitions as president.
In 2007, Mr. Kirimaten attempted to raise the standard for the ruling party, winning 32.3% of the vote.
He first won his second place after Nana Akufo-Addo won his 47.96% of the vote. Undeterred, Alan Cash made further attempts to take over the party's leadership in 2010 and 2014. However, on both occasions he came in second to primary winner Akufo-Addo.
