In a heartbreaking turn of events, tragedy struck the quiet suburb of Sepe in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of three relatives in a devastating domestic gas explosion. The victims, identified by the police as Hamdella Jibril, aged 37, Kenyeyiti Meena-Lla Adam, aged 5, and Rafat Huruna, aged 18, lost their lives in the horrifying incident. A fourth victim, Majid Adams, survived the explosion but is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The incident unfolded when Hamdella Jibril discovered a leakage from their six-kilogram gas cylinder in the kitchen. Unaware of the lurking danger, Jibril ventured behind the kitchen to investigate, only to be met with tragedy. A coal pot with fire at the back of the kitchen unexpectedly ignited the leaking gas, triggering a powerful explosion that claimed three lives and left one person injured.
Despite the severity of the incident, the affected family chose to bury the deceased without informing the authorities, leaving the police unaware of the tragic events. It wasn't until April 19, 2024, when an informant alerted the police about the case, prompting an immediate investigation. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers encountered three elders of the deceased's family who confirmed the devastating chain of events. The police report revealed that the victims did not all succumb to their injuries on the same day, with Kenyeyiti Meena passing away on April 11, 2024, followed by Haruna Adams and Hamdella Jibril on April 17, 2024. With the deceased laid to rest and the injured under medical care, the police have summoned three family members to aid in the ongoing investigation into this tragic incident.
